On the same day Brynhild went home to her foster father, and told him in confidence that a king had come to her - “through my wavering flame and he said he came to marry with me and called himself Gunnar. But I said that Sigurd alone would do that when I swore my oath on the mountain, and he is my first husband.” Heimir said that things would have to stay as they were. Brynhild said: “My daughter by Sigurd, Aslaug, shall be brought up here with you.” The kings went home now, but Brynhild went to her father. Grimhild greeted them warmly and thanked Sigurd for his aid. Arrangements were made for the banquet. There was a great multitude. King Budli came there with his daughter and Atli, his son, and this feast lasted for days. And when the festivities ended, Sigurd remembered all his oaths to Brynhild although he kept quiet. Brynhild and Gunnar sat together at the merriment and drank good wine.
